We are at a point were we feel that the current Version 1.xx.x release numbering scheme doesn't accurately reflect the development of the product since it's initial release last year. In addition to adding products at higher and lower levels of functionality, the product definitions have dramatically changed with more network functionality, industrial and commercial scale support, and our 24/7 remote monitoring service. Version 1.00.8, which is tentatively schedule to enter Beta Test in mid to late April will be the last Version 1.xx.x numbered release. We will also be changing our overall numbering scheme to reflect the past year's experience with issuing software updates.
We are looking at changing feature content and pricing as well.
Pricing should be determined prior to the release of Version
1.00.8 and we'll determine at that time if we are going to make the new
pricing structure effective immediately.
Our new numbering scheme will be "Version.Release.Update", with "Version" being incremented to "2" and "Release" starting at "01". The "Update" value will be incremented for each published update. The "Summer Release", which had tentatively been 1.00.9, will now be 2.01. The "Spring Release" will still be 1.00.8.
We will push all pending software defects into updates prior to releasing Version 2.01. End-of-life for each version will be 12 months after the last published update for that version. Note that versions prior to 1.00.5 all reached end-of-life when we changed our software development process for Version 1.00.5. Any customer who purchased greenMonitor Version 1.00.x less than 12 months prior to Version 2.01 being released will be entitled to a free upgrade. All version 1.00.x customers will be able to update their systems to 1.00.8 when it is released and will receive free updates for at least 12 months after its release date.
