greenStorage™ Network Attached Storage

The greenStorage Network Attached Storage server is designed for use as a file server, such as for a home office or small business. Disk storage is configurable from 640GB to 3TB (3,000GB). Power consumption during idle and casual use is a low 40 watts, with the maximum power consumption of the greenStorage well below the idle power consumption of many of our competitors products.

The greenServer system is based on the low-power Intel® Atom® processor. The Atom 330 processor contains dual cores, with each core supporting 2 hyperthreads, for a total of 4 executing threads. Combined with our performance-enhancing disk drive systems, the greenServer provides performance consistent with higher power systems, but at 25% or less of the energy consumption[1].

The base greenStorage system configuration is an Intel Atom 330 processor running at 1.6GHz, integrated video, integrated Intel High Definition Audio, 2GB 533MHz DDR2 RAM, 640GB (4 x 160GB) RAID 0 (striped) disk storage for applications and data, a 160GB disk for operating system installation (Windows® operating systems only), a 1 Gigabit / second Ethernet interface, front panel USB-based multi-card reader, and the Gentoo Linux™ operating system providing network access to system storage. Supported network filesystems include NFS, CIFS and Samba, as well as FTP and secure FTP for remote file transfers. An internal DVD / CD reader / writer with LightScribe support is available as an upgrade option (we recommend an external DVD / CD drive for energy saving reasons) for systems containing 2TB or less when the front panel card reader is removed. For Microsoft® operating system users, we make Windows XP®, Windows Vista® and Windows® Small Business Server 2003 available as installed options.

[1] 40 watt typical power consumption as compared to 250 watts for traditional small business servers. Energy Star certification in progress. Optional CD / DVD drive adds 10 watts to base system power requirements when active.
