The greenFarm system is designed for use as a virtualization server in a small business environment. By consolidating multiple workstations onto a single server, small businesses can realize substantial energy savings over traditional one-workstation-per-user schemes. Disk storage for data and applications is configurable from 1TB (1,000GB) all the way to an astounding 9TB in a single 2U standard rack mountable chassis. For environments where a computer rack is not available, we offer the greenFarm Mini in our standard desktop / desk-side case. For the greenFarm Mini, power consumption during idle is 62 watts and during casual use is 90 watts[1].
The base greenFarm system configuration is an AMD Phenom II processor running at 2.8GHz, integrated video, integrated High Definition Audio, 4GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM, 1TB (2 x 500GB) RAID 0 (striped) disk storage for applications and data, a 160GB disk for operating system installation, a 1 Gigabit / second Ethernet interface, front panel USB-based card reader, and the Gentoo Linux™ operating system. For Microsoft® operating system users, we make Windows XP®, Windows Vista® and Windows® Server 2003 available as installed options.
